Tai rosso, between history and legend

Why the name Tocai?

The Legend tells that this grape variety has as godfather a joiner of Barbarano Vicentino. During his military service in the Committee of the Hungarian Zemplen (at the time of Maria Theresa of Austria) he brought home the cuttings of a grape that he had appreciate in the area of Tokaji, not doing particular attention to the white Furmint grape that gives life to the famous Hungarian dessert wine famous all over the world, but a red grape variety. Was so that in Barbarano was planting this new grape varieties. The grape was named by the local winemakers “Marangona” to mean “daughter of a joiner,” and the wine become ‘Tocai del Marangon. These definitions accredited by the elders of Barbarano until a few years ago.
